Stake Wager Calculator

A wagering requirement is not a number of losses — it is turnover. This calculator converts a bonus and its multiplier into the real amount you have to stake, how many bets that is at your average size, and what clearing it is likely to cost you at a given house edge.

What A Wagering Requirement Actually Is

A wagering requirement is turnover, not losses. A $100 bonus at 40× requires $4,000 of total stakes before the bonus balance becomes withdrawable. That does not mean you need $4,000 — the same money can be wagered many times over as it cycles through wins and losses.

What it does mean is exposure. Every one of those $4,000 of stakes is subject to the house edge, so the requirement has a real, calculable expected cost. That number is the one nobody puts in the promotional material, and it is what this calculator exists to show you.

Game Contribution Changes Everything

Most operators weight games differently toward wagering. Slots typically count 100%. Table games such as blackjack and roulette often count 10% or less — sometimes zero. If blackjack counts 10%, a $4,000 requirement becomes $40,000 of actual blackjack turnover.

This is the single most common way people fail to clear a bonus: they pick the game with the lowest house edge, not realising it also has the lowest contribution, and end up with vastly more exposure than if they had simply played slots.

The Expected Cost Of Clearing A Bonus

The calculator multiplies your effective turnover by the house edge of the game you plan to clear on. That product is the amount you should expect to lose in the process, on average, before any bonus is credited.

Compare it against the bonus itself. If a $100 bonus costs $120 of expected losses to unlock, the bonus is not a gift — it is a fee. If it costs $40, it is genuinely positive. Which side of that line you land on is determined almost entirely by the wagering multiplier and the game contribution, and both are published before you opt in.

Other Terms That Void Bonuses

  • Maximum bet while a bonus is active — exceeding it can void the entire bonus, and it is often as low as $5.
  • Time limits — many bonuses expire in 7 to 30 days, which makes large requirements impossible to clear at a sane pace.
  • Maximum cashout — some bonuses cap what you can withdraw from bonus winnings regardless of what you won.
  • Excluded games — the highest-RTP titles are frequently barred from contributing at all.

Read those four before you opt in. They void more bonuses than the wagering requirement does.

Stake Wager Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

What does 40× wagering mean?
You must place bets totalling 40 times the bonus amount before the bonus converts to withdrawable funds. On a $100 bonus that is $4,000 of turnover — not $4,000 of losses, since the same money is wagered repeatedly.
Is wagering calculated on bonus only or deposit plus bonus?
It varies by operator. Bonus-only is more player-friendly; deposit-plus-bonus doubles the requirement. The calculator above lets you model both.
Why does game contribution matter so much?
If a game contributes 10%, every $1 wagered counts as $0.10 toward the requirement — so clearing takes ten times the turnover and carries ten times the exposure to the house edge.
What is the expected cost of clearing a bonus?
Effective turnover multiplied by the house edge of the game you clear on. If that number is larger than the bonus, the bonus costs you money.
Can I withdraw before clearing the wagering requirement?
Usually you can withdraw your own deposit balance, but doing so typically forfeits the bonus and any winnings attributed to it. Check the specific terms.
Does this apply to rakeback too?
No. Rakeback is normally paid with no wagering requirement, which is exactly why it is often worth more than a headline deposit match.
